Andrew Curtis

Executive Director

Andrew is originally from upstate NY. His passion is teaching and leading others to reach their best potential. His love for scouting, the outdoors, and becoming an Eagle Scout fueled his drive from an early age. As a twenty-year Navy Veteran, Andrew enjoys bringing his military and scouting experience to Camp Ara's programs. He is currently studying at Liberty University to complete his Bachelor's in Religion with the vision of becoming the Pastor, and impacting lives for Christ, at Camp Ara. Andrew is a husband and a proud father of five.


Jenn Curtis

Director of Marketing & Communications

Jenn Curtis is a professional photographer and videographer across the country for clients like The Department of the Army, Pentagon, and the Air Force Academy. She has had work published in both local and national magazines, like Panama City Living and The Knot. As a photographer near the nation’s largest naval base, she has served our country’s soldiers through Operation: Love Reunited (OpLove). An organization that supports our troops with family photoshoots before and during deployments and capturing their homecomings. Before becoming a photographer, Jenn was the Producer for Talk Radio 101 at Magic Broadcasting, a regionally syndicated radio station in Panama City Florida. In addition to being the station’s producer, she coordinated community relations, and her natural talents in marketing flourished through sales and commercial spot production. She served as the Mobilization Coordinator for Point Harbor Church in Chesapeake, VA for five years. In that capacity, she designed and executed outreach initiatives, planned and led multiple international mission trips with students and adults, and served as the point of contact for church photography and student media campaigns. She is currently the Director of Marketing and Communications at Camp Ara. She is wife to her loving husband, Andrew, and mother to their five children; Madison, Kaytlin, Connor, Ally, and Colin.


Shay Hickman

Program Director

Shay Hickman is a U.S. Navy veteran who served for eight years as an Electronics Technician First Class and spent the last three years as a Naval Instructor and Marksman Coach. Shay has prioritized doing things safely and with excellence. Both have been demonstrated on deployments with his Sailors, handling highly sensitive electronics on advanced Navy Patrol Boats, and facilitating live-fire training to 90 Sailors at a time.  He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business, specializing in Technology Management. Shay has mentored young music artists through ministry bands and small groups since the age of 14. He has served in youth ministries in Ohio and California since 2010 and is currently serving in Virginia. Shay is a child at heart and has turned a hobby of refurbishing full-size arcade machines into a means of connecting today’s technology aged youth with hands-on skills of repair, focus, and reward. He has been married to his loving life, Leigha, since 2010, and is a father to three amazing children.

Leigha Hickman

Director of Finance & Culinary Arts

Leigha Hickman began working in 2012 with youth ministries in Ohio, continuing while living in California and now in Virginia. She has served the ministries by coordinating youth retreats, planning and executing statewide church conferences, and as an administrative assistant to the youth pastors. Before serving in ministry, she worked for six years in finance as an Assistant Branch Manager and an auditor for Commercial Loan Borrowers around the country. Leigha’s Alma Mater is Ohio Dominion University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. She has worked with women and families who were liberated from sex trafficking to provide them with supplies to start micro-enterprises in Nicaragua through the organization Breaking Chains in California. She has been married to her husband and adventure partner, Shay, since 2010 and homeschools their three children; Myles, Emmaline, and Lincoln.
