Our Foster Care Vision

There is a clear vision for Camp Ara supporting the foster community in Marion and the surrounding counties. We seek to educate and inform the community of the great need for fostering a child in West Virginia. With 7,265 children currently in the WV foster care system, it is one of the worst states in the country. Camp Ara will work with the tenacious foster care organizations in the area to provide training and information to current and future foster parents. Sponsored retreats will bring foster families to the mountains of north-central West Virginia to recoup lost strength in the day-to-day, connect and grow with others in a Christian environment while exploring the outdoors and new activities. Camp Ara aims to have many dedicated summer camp programs designed for children, specifically in foster care. These camps will provide the same programs as any summer camp with an increased counselor to camper ratio and additional training to help the children have a fun and lasting experience. Camp Ara will host life skill classes to teens transitioning into adulthood to help their families strengthen them for their next phase in life. We will provide Ara Scholarships funded in part by our year-round camp concessions and general store, and by generous contributions from corporations, local businesses, and individuals like you who want to help ensure we are able to help affect the lives of as many foster children as possible.

Operation: Foster Care Package 2021

Our Christmas Gift Drive For Teens in Local Foster Care

With our military background, and more deployments than we can count, fellow armed forces service members and veterans know the value of a care package while on deployment. It helps our service men and women experience a little bit of home while being far from it in many circumstances.

Psalms 127:3 "Children are a gift from the Lord, they are a reward from Him.

It is important that the staggering numbers of children in West Virginia who are fostered are not forgotten. There are many great programs, families, and group homes that offer shelter, food, education, and a chance at a normal life. This is Camp Ara's first Operation - Foster Care Package and it is an opportunity for all of us to help a community in need of love and providing.

Over two months leading up to Christmas of 2021 thanks to the generosity of people all of the country from WV to our military in VA to CO, we raised nearly $2,000 in funds for gifts in addition to hundreds of gifts for 2 local teen group homes. In addition to those, we were blessed with hundreds of additional donations of toys for younger children that we were able to donate to one of our amazing local foster care programs, NYAP. Thank you all for you generous contributions and helping make our local foster care children feel the love of God and their communmity.
