Our Foster Care Vision
There is a clear vision for Camp Ara supporting the foster community in Marion and the surrounding counties. We seek to educate and inform the community of the great need for fostering a child in West Virginia. With 7,265 children currently in the WV foster care system, it is one of the worst states in the country. Camp Ara will work with the tenacious foster care organizations in the area to provide training and information to current and future foster parents. Sponsored retreats will bring foster families to the mountains of north-central West Virginia to recoup lost strength in the day-to-day, connect and grow with others in a Christian environment while exploring the outdoors and new activities. Camp Ara aims to have many dedicated summer camp programs designed for children, specifically in foster care. These camps will provide the same programs as any summer camp with an increased counselor to camper ratio and additional training to help the children have a fun and lasting experience. Camp Ara will host life skill classes to teens transitioning into adulthood to help their families strengthen them for their next phase in life. We will provide Ara Scholarships funded in part by our year-round camp concessions and general store, and by generous contributions from corporations, local businesses, and individuals like you who want to help ensure we are able to help affect the lives of as many foster children as possible.
